I've seen how gambling affects a grown ups productivity and concentration in their work place so imagine how much much more it would do to those students.
Any addiction could cause a distraction to students it isn't just gambling, they need to learn what to prioritize and focus on what they really need to do.
Gambling poses more threats to students even more than any other category of people and my reason for saying this is because students tend to get more desperate when they are out of money due to what they are exposed to at their age, this can can make them start doing a whole lot of things that they are not supposed to just to fuel their gambling addiction. This is more dangerous to them than anyone else
