I tried searching for the best gambling stories and the ones that popped up were full of gambling recoveries. A lot of them highlighted of how gambling ruined their life but for some reason, usually one involving religion, they got better. I was expecting more of stories where a gambler won a significant amount. Extreme lucky kind of stories.

It got me thinking whether people think that gambling success stories can only be if you recover from gambling? Is that really the end goal? To rid of gambling as an activity?
Actually most stories that get shared widely appear to focus on healing almost if it’s the only acceptable ending. I think it’s because people relate more to struggle and redemption than to luck and winning.  A great triumph is rare and frequently feels like a fluke, so it doesn’t send a lasting message but when someone hits rock bottom and turns their life around especially with the help of faith or support it feels like a full trip. Personally I don’t think the final aim needs to be quitting totally until it’s become a severe problem. Some folks can wager casually without losing control but certainly the stories that get shared the most often focus on stepping away and reclaiming life not on scoring the jackpot and staying in the game
