That's a common expectation in my country. I get to see that a lot and I believe it's because those who gamble and win don't keep their mouths shut.
Some gamblers are not actually the ones that advertise themselves and their winnings to other gamblers. If you are the type who plays bets in betting shops, which are popular around our country, you will notice that when a player wins a bet in that place, irrespective of how crowded the place might be, those cashiers and attendees will somehow talk about the winnings, which others who are there will get the update on, and from there, they will task the player who just won the bet. Sometimes these people do this just to let players know that people still win here.
I think it works differently now because most players gamble in online casinos. No one will find out about your winnings unless you tell your close ones and friends yourself. Maybe it used to be possible back in the days when people would go to a betting shop to place a bet, but now it’s all different. I don’t rule out that there are still places where you can go and place a bet in person, but I believe it’s not as popular anymore. Nowadays, most players gamble online, and I think most of them don’t talk much about their results.
Most players bet online due to privacy, personally I prefer online casinos because my losses and wins are only known by me expect I disclose it to anyone...most people tend to get over generous with their wins when because they are trying to please a lot of people, that's what winning in public can cause.. it's better to just take your wins and losses in private than people knowing anything about them
