Manchester City had a squad overhaul last summer but pep guardiola biggest mistake was not truly replacing those players. The reliable players like Rodri, De Bruyne got injured early and this made the squad depleted as there weren’t any creativity coming from the midfield and this affected Halaand and other attackers too. So for me the immediate resolution should be the midfield which is the area Pep is trying to strengthen at the moment. The arrival of Cherki and Tijjani will help give Manchester City depth in two vital positions which is the attacking midfield position and the Defensive midfield position which to me is very good replacement.
Pep also added a left back because city defense were obviously shipping in goals like a basket and it affected them. I Will also agree that city can actually add a striker even though a low budget one to help fill up for Halaand during his drought period or when he is injured but Manchester are capable of playing without striker though
On paper I think the squad was great, but almost none of those players fulfilled expecations. Foden was bad and had bad statistics, Haaland only scored 22 goals, Grealish peaked in the negative sense in his career and scored three goals this season and he was not reliable and only played two hands full of games in the Premier League measured in minutes.
This list of negatives goes on and I think Guardiola couldn't understand what is going on. His system that usually brings every player to his max during the season, it didn't work this time and those who know Guardiola, will know that he is criticial with himself about it.
But what will he do now and will he be able to adapt himself such that he can bring Haaland and Foden and all those other players back to play their best? Grealish's market value is 28% of what it used to be not too long ago. I think they will make changes to the squad.
