I tried searching for the best gambling stories and the ones that popped up were full of gambling recoveries. A lot of them highlighted of how gambling ruined their life but for some reason, usually one involving religion, they got better. I was expecting more of stories where a gambler won a significant amount. Extreme lucky kind of stories.

It got me thinking whether people think that gambling success stories can only be if you recover from gambling? Is that really the end goal? To rid of gambling as an activity?

There are very few success stories of gamblers taking very big wins from casinos and bookmakers, or maybe they are just under publicized. If you look at the biggest winners from bookmakers, you'll find the majority we're related to horse racing which can provide some huge odds in comparison to the upfront bet. There are people who dropped a dollar and on 6 to 20 leg mutlibets that  ended up paying over a million. I'd say the best return you're going to find without being pulled into highly addictive betting activity, is to participate on a national lottery if your country offers it and just refrain from betting until the draw gets over a landmark number - like $100 million. That should be enough to scratch a gambling itch and buy you a dream of being a millionaire for a night.
