On the side of losing, this can only work when a gambler bets with an amount that can be afforded, so even if the game is a loss, one won't feel that bad because it is the amount they can afford to lose.

While on the side of winning, one needs to learn and get used to how to control excitement in gambling wins. Whether losing or winning, no one is supposed to know about it, but it is unfortunate that most gamblers struggle so much with their emotions.
