If you say airdrop projects are useless now, then I will agree with you, but we have seen lots of projects which did airdrop, and they were successful, but now most of the projects entering the crypto space are rubbish, some of them are scam projects so they do conduct airdrops  just to create awareness about their project, and when people invest, then they will steal investors money. I totally agree with you that recent airdrops are scam.
