The next Symbol/NEM update "KASANE" was announced on September 27, 2024.

Symbol 2.0, under the code name KASANE, is the project, the purpose of which to expand Symbol without prejudice to the basic design of the protocol, expand the design area to ensure crosschain compatibility and more complex products, as well as turn the functions and UX Symbol into a scaling and flexible platform.
NEM is the first participant in the crosschain system based on Symbol (as I understand it).
