However, I find it dangerous to help a person who is clearly in difficulty, simply by giving away more money, only increasing the damage you could create.

immediately! With good or bad manners, if they don't want to listen, it means they don't need your help!
Exactly, there are people who only listen to themselves and never to others. I'm not saying that's bad, but there are situations that requires you to listen and check what others are telling you, and if you see that they are right and their opinion is worth noting, then you take the opinion and put it into good news. But some persons never listens, no matter how much you try to talk to them.
Yes, I know that addiction isn't something that just goes away like that, but at least one should first of all put his mind to it, let it be that you're trying and failing, than you're not trying at all. No matter my relationship with such a person, I'd find it very hard to give such a person financial assistance.
This is actually true on which its not bad to hear up someones sentiment when it comes into this aspect specially that you've been able to do something excessive then hearing out others words or advises could definitely help you but just like been said that not all people are that being open minded nor wanting or liking to hear out other people and just that simply sticking into those things that they do have in mind. When you are that seeing someone who do have that possible gambling addiction and tending to borrow or taking up some loan. Ofcourse you wont be trying out to give him some loan or making him borrow just because you would be that wanting for him to stop gambling on his state. We arent that trying out to get involved into the things that he's been that doing but it would be that a pity if someone do end up on disaster just because they cant be able to control out their addiction.
