Barcelona had bet on their defence and they suffered a big defeat against Inter. Their goalscoring woes were caused by errors at the back & goalkeeping instability, which forced the management to sign Joan Garcia from Espanyol for 26 million. The move put extra pressure on the goalkeeping bench. Now Barcelona have 4 goalkeeper Ter Stegen, Szegedy, Pena & Garcia, paying all those salaries is a solid loss for them. All eyes are now on stegen, he is a top level player & if Garcia is the first choice a transfer is likely.

Their young defenders show promise however if Flick want a strong defence, he will need professional & experienced right now, which means a big spending, right? Yet with Laporta very unlikely to put up the chips to sign Nico Williams cause their finance is shaky. so Flick has to play his hands smartly to tighten the backline & protect the goalkeeper by avoiding failure.

With four goalkeepers, there’s an increase in spending but the competition could improve that aspect. I do agree with the defence though, they need more experienced players to mix with the current setup. There were some horrible mistakes from the defence last season but I think if Garcia and co improve, the need for more experienced defenders at Barca might turn out to be a myth, they already have some experienced players.. they’re just not performing well except for Inigo Martinez who seems to stand out.

I still think goal scoring needs work. It’s becoming common for Barcelona to miss important chances. If you watched the game against Inter, Barca had more attempts but Inter made the most of theirs including some beautiful CK  goals. Barca had cleaner chances but wasted most of them and paid for it despite all the claims about referee favoritism.
