I missed this thread.
As for me - it is not about gambling. It is about crime, about steal. This employee just stole money and doesn`t matter how he spent it.
Of course when we play we have to remember rules, but even out of gambling - we have to remember that steal is a crime.
Your observations are correct. The story was just about a criminal stealing from an organisation and spending it on gambling. But this criminal activity might be fueled by gambling addiction. There have been stories of workers stealing from organisations because they want ot use it to satisfy their uncontrollable urge for gambling. That's why it's important to only use funds we can afford and not borrowed money to engage in gambling.
I think that all of us understand that steal for gambling is a bad idea. But in such way we see that gambling is connected with steal. It makes us think that gamblers are thiefs and i can`t agree with it.
Someone stole money, spent a part of it and decide to spent the rest in casino because couldn`t decide what to do with it.
It is the other case of situation and it can be right assumption.
Everyday we hear how bad is to be a gambler, how they lose money, how they steal money, lose family, job, etc. But the main part of gamblers just play for fun and don`t want to know about such problems, they even don`t know what is "responsible gambling" because they play responsible without reading any rules.
