That "autogoal" discussion, I get it as it means "self". As in, autobiography or automobile. But since a goal is always scored by your self, all goals are, technically, autogoals. So it feels like autogoal is technically inaccurate. An own goal feels more correct. #2172 in Vol XXVII of Pointless Discussions.

I have to say that I'm pretty surprised that in English it's an own goal, rather than autogoal. I get what you are saying, but in Croatia it's autogol (goal in Croatian is "gol"). But never mind.
It is an own goal in English and autogol in Croatian. Nothing really to discuss here
