This is why i always recommend creating a monthly budget that you dont go over.
It's a great idea , some people like to organize their budgets on a monthly basis and it works out well for them, each one of us has a special way of putting our funds so that we can be efficient in our expenses, something that is unforgivable is not paying services , taxes , because they simply cut off services and at this point being left without service is something very bad, for that reason allocating money to gambling for me is the last thing I consider since sometimes there is no money left for it.
Management of f finance is very important that is why we take budget setting very seriously, you are right with the bad experience that could come from not paying for service because of lack of funds and ending up losing those services, so for that prior preparation is very important so to stay relevant and in service all the time.
