Seriously though, whenever missus and me decide to shell out some money for a split AC and installation, the next summer will be cool and rainy so we delay it again only to regret it the year after next bitterly (like i.e. NOW).

We inquired a geothermal heat pump a few years ago because the idea is brilliant and effective compared to air heat pumps but when the guy started to list expenses we realized we would well end up in the 6 figure range just for drilling the hole, I guess at current corn prices the whole setup would cost over 1 BTC, possibly up to 2 easily. An AC costs me <$10k installed and probably like $200-500 per summer for leccy. For heating in winter we spend like ~1200 for oil + ~500 for wood.

That said, the amortization time frame for such an apparatus is well beyond the reach of my mortal residues. Still like the concept and I guess once installed and paid you enjoy (almost) free heating and cooling.
