I have not seen any case of gambling addiction seen from the angle of being spiritual motivated. It's just like other types of addiction like drugs, alcohol and others. It is best viewed from from the angle of poor mentality than any other thing. It is poor mentality that leads to greed, desperation and all negative things that manifest as gambling addiction.
I guess it all depends on the country you live in and the type of mindset people around have... where I'm from people think that every addiction has some spiritual ties to it, they don't agree to the fact that it's a psychological condition and as a result of this it can affect the behaviour of these gamblers...most People use this as an excuse to keep gambling irresponsibly, addictions are simply self made problems
