I think working for yourself doesn’t mean being completely independent of people, because in the end value always flows through people even if you trade or invest, you still depend on the market which is people driven to make profit. So to me working for yourself means having control over your time decisions and how you earn not necessarily being isolated from others or customer needs

Your right working for yourself doesn't mean that will be independent of others because everyone is connected you need others to succeed in what ever that you do because you working for yourself means that you have to create value so that others can buy into it that is how wealth is really created

Working for yourself means that you will have to be creative and think about something unique that you will have to offer
Some people make this rocket science comment as if when you are self employed, you can do without others, but that is far from the truth, unless for those that have retired and have a lot of none physical assets like Bitcoin that doesn't require much physical work to keep it investment going.

But if you are into other physical business or investment such as Real estate and the rest, you must have to work extra hard to meet up with demands and making sure that all measures are employed to keep you on the top make a lot of sense to a self employed someone.
