That’s correct. From what I’ve read during my research on the over/under market, experts often say that the over is usually the public’s favorite pick. That’s why bookies tend to set the line in a way that makes the over look more attractive but in reality, it’s often a trap, and the game ends up going under.
Sorry, but which expert said that? can you provide at least a publication/article related to this?
I'm a long time sportsbook person, my sportsbook journey started in 2016 which means I've been there for almost 10 years. However, I was once a beginner too. When I first started out looking at the O/U options, I tended to go with U. This has a basis, as a beginner I want to bet more safely, because from the start of the match, we (the bettors) have won the bet even though we never know what the final result will be.
Is this true? Since you are talking of something that needs a study or research, do you have a source for this, where it is explained that there is indeed a psychological aspect to over or under betting? Or do you at least have data that back this observation?
In my experience it is dependent on the specific game. If the game is between two teams that are high scorers, I will probably be betting on the over. But if the game is between low scoring teams I might be betting on the under.
Sanitough, the topic you started here is very interesting for those curious about the human nature, and the results could be extrapolated to other fields, but it's important like MAAManda and Fundamentals Of said that you share the source. Otherwise, we can be believing a thesis that has no fundamentals.
I also think (but this is only my opinion, I haven't read about it, although it seems like common sense) that when a bettor is optimistic or has a good day, he will be more prone to choose over, but if he's down for any reason, he will more likely choose under.
Anyway, a link to research on this topic would be very valuable, if anyone knows it.
