I too considered most of these browser add ons as a waste of space too but at the rate of people being caught out by links that are not what they really are you think it is rather clever to have a second pair of eyes keeping an eye on you. In particular, even a single mistake can be expensive to users who handle wallets and access random websites in search of airdrops. I have not tried Goplus yet but now I want to characterize it.
