The Indian batsmen batted much better than I expected. The team scored a huge 587 runs. I expected India's innings to end before 500. Shubman Gill played the biggest innings. We saw a huge innings of 269 runs from Shubman Gill. Also, Washington Sundar and Jadeja's innings were very necessary. These two batsmen scored 42 and 89 runs respectively.
England could not make a good start. The team lost three wickets for just 25 runs. Especially the two experienced batsmen like Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope could not add any runs to the scoreboard. England's total was only 77 runs after losing 3 wickets at the end of the day. Joe Root, Harry Brook and Stokes all three will have to bat well if England do not want to be defeated.
Shubman played well, but it was hard to see him miss a well deserved triple century narrowly. And credit should also be given to both Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar, who gave good support to Gill. These two are also responsible for India recovering to 587, from a perilous position of 211/5. If the Poms had managed to take a couple of quick wickets after Reddy got out, then India could have got bundled out for less than 300. But thanks to Gill and the lower order batsmen, they have reached a respectable total.
