I have not seen any case of gambling addiction seen from the angle of being spiritual motivated. It's just like other types of addiction like drugs, alcohol and others. It is best viewed from  from the angle of poor mentality than any other thing. It is poor mentality that leads to greed, desperation and all negative things that manifest as gambling addiction.

I agree with this, the reason for addiction is a poor and weak mentality this is why a lot of people that are addicted lack restraint and will power to control themselves. some religious people see this as a spiritual attack and you can't blame them for the what they believe in because it's probably the information they have received or what they have learnt. To stop an addiction you must change your mindset
Gambling addiction is not really a result of poor mentality as both of you have said, it's far from it, anybody can become addicted to any activity like gambling regardless of their level of mentality, wether It be poor or rich, however you want to say it.

Addiction to anything can be as a result of over doing, over indulgence, over participation in that thing, any activity we like and indulge ourself in it, our brains begin to take records and the more we indulge ourself in that particular thing like gambling which is being discussed, our brain gradually start getting used to it, and if we do not withdraw from time to time allow the brain get involved in other things, and at the same time, we lack control over our self, a time will come when the brain had become used to that thing and we discover we can no longer do without it.

So for me, I don't think addiction to gambling has anything to do with the mindset being poor, addiction is more of not being able to control our minds.
