After passing the "big spending bill" promoted by Trump, Elon finally realised that Trump was not going to be the one implementing a government spend reduction programme and that he was not going to reduce the national debt.
In things such as promoting hate agains immigrants, depriving diverse people from rights and cutting taxes for the rich (while having tariffs that do the same effect) Trump has followed the programme. However he has not nearly forced the vote of his own party to massively raise the debt celing of the already badly loaded government.
This is a debt that will be now carried by all US people and seems that, since it is impossible to pay, will eventually result either in a default or in huge taxes down the line. This is starting to look Ponzi.
Musk decided that this is not what he voted for, nor what he supported and is now clearly playing with the idea of creating a rival party.
Well, this could result in a very significant development within the world of American politics if Elon Musk is being half serious about going third party, it is unlikely to happen, though.
Also, I would like to know whether you have some source on this news, because I have not been paying attention to that billionaire in a while since the presidential election ended in the USA.
Also, I thought Trump was going to completely align Elon Musk with the indirect threats he has been throwing against him, like shouting down government contracts with his companies and even deporting him back to South Africa, but if this is true then Elon is likely to fracture the support of Trump significantly, but I think it won't be enough to start a inner struggle for power within the Republican party, Trump is already the president so naturally he has got more power than Elon Musk and his fans/supporters.
