That's exactly what the new America party will do; assuming ~10–15% of Americans like Musk. Of those, perhaps 20–30% may have a negative view of Trump. That gives a ballpark estimate of six to fifteen million people in the U.S. who like Musk but dislike Trump. Not enough to win, but enough to spilt the vote. Looks like Musk wants to be a world hero now. 
Even if Elon wins in a possible election race, there is 0 chance of being President. So, it's more than clear that this is a trick to either break the votes or... break the votes.
