I also have worries on the aspect you stated which is about people claiming to have recovered huge funds but the evidence are not always substantial. I guess it is an issue of trust that is why people struggle to accept all information regarding wallet recovery.

It is indeed an issue of trust in wallet recovery solutions. I wont blame anyone who would hesitate in using any wallet recovery services. Well trusted forums like the bitcointalk could help build trust so those rendering this service wont look like a scammer, especially if they are genuine.

My no.1 rules in matters like this is, dont trust anyone who will come to your Dm offering to render you such services. DYOR before choosing any service by checking if they are legal or have any legal partnership with a reliable exchange.
Many individuals today are afraid to utilise wallet recovery services owing to fears about frauds, which I find completely boring.  Jumping to the point where you mentioned the importance of DYOR (do your own research) before selecting a service as an individual, before diving into any service, be cautious before falling victim to such scams, and so this already points to the possibility of finding trustworthy wallet recovery services Well, I was also saying that they ought to look for partnerships that are genuine and lawful, with trustworthy transactions or other signs of legality.  It is a great way to establish trust.  However, you mentioned that a lot of strangers had messaged you directly to notify you or to offer free recovery services.  I must not believe in such conversations.
