<..snip..>

the reason why gambling is prohibited tho is because it might escalate into fights if someone for example loses and doesn't pay their debts

just shows how gambling will always exist anywhere

Not just in prison but also in extreme cases of life, peoples still tend to gamble with the little stuff that they have.

The funny thing is- our whole life involves a series of decisions that we consider day-by-day. In essence, we gamble almost all of our entire lives when we consider the little things that could affect us in the long run. Taking a risk or you may even call it gambling just exists anywhere. It can also apply to situations where it could impact our lives in a big or small way.

I still wonder how a prisoner Will choose to engage himself into gambling with his food when they berely eat, isn't that foolishness!! When their major concern is supposed to be on how they're going to feed well rather than gambling with the little that is given to them.

Of course the food that they will bet on are not the food they only have or their food ration for that day. It's usually food that their relatives or friends that visit them bring.

Prison food is not good as we know and hey taste very bland from what I've read. It's a luxury for them to have eat something that is from outside the prison like chips, chocolates, and even the taste of homecooked meals so using it as a bet on gambling inside the prison is worth it for them as long as both parties agree.

In prison, there is tough competition for food and clothing. Additionally, there will be factions where someone would rule the whole prison. In order to at least have a standing in the prison due to the hierarchy involved, you really have to risk some of your personal belongings in order to have an edge in that kind of setting.
