Jalen Williams has agreed to a 5-year maximum rookie contract extension that could reach $287 million. This was expected and the Thunder managed to keep one of the key pieces that helped them win the championship. The salary cap will soon become an issue for them. They knew they wouldn't be able to keep this championship roster together for long. Some players will leave and they'll rely on the development of newly drafted players. The Thunder can contend for the championship again next season, but it will be harder after that. Considering that we've been seeing different finalists every year, that trend could easily continue next season too.
Damn, almost $1 billion for OKC's Big Three SGA, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren. Well deserved, right? Unlike Devin Booker, lol.
Hopefully, OKC can pull off backtoback championships since their roster is still intact. Who do you think will be their closest competition in the standings?
I'm think its Rockets again although there's so many changes in Rockets.. It's almost certain OKC will make the playoffs again given how consistent they are.
As they say, SGA is the most consistent player out there.
Yeah, around $822 million for their big 3, I guess they will have to like look for role players along the way that can provide more on defense for them. So it's a big gamble but it's more than they are willing to go and shell out that huge money. Right now we haven't seen back to back championship and it's very hard to accomplished in this era. But let's see, if this three are lock in and be healthy next season, then I guess the OKC has a big chance to repeat and that big money is worth it. I do agree, Booker hasn't proved anything yet to get that huge 2 year contract from the Suns. But the noise is still with the OKC next season as they will be the target of many teams to beat because they are the defending champion.
