England lost two wickets for just 44 runs. Two experienced batsmen like Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett failed to do well. Even then, at the end of the day, England managed to score 251 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Joe Root is unbeaten on 99 runs. Stokes also scored 39 runs.
These two batsmen will definitely have to do well if they want to score big tomorrow. I especially have high expectations from Root. If England wants to dominate the match, they will definitely have to score a 450+. We have seen in the last two matches that Indian batsmen are in excellent form now. So if England cannot score big, India will win this match too.
In this ongoing Test match against India England finished for day at 251 runs for loss of 4 wickets. This came after difficult start where both experienced batsmen Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett were out cheaply. Luckily Joe Root played exceptionally well and is currently not out on 99 runs while Ben Stokes also contributed valuable 39 runs. For England to have strong chance of winning both Root and Stokes need to score much more runs tomorrow especially Root. Given that Indian batsmen have been in excellent form in recent matches England really needs to aim for total of over 400 runs to put enough pressure on India and prevent them from winning this match as well.
With India in such great form at the moment it would not be a good decision for England to let them set their target of 400 runs. If England want to beat India or draw this Test they will have to bat for a target of 600 runs. But after winning the toss and deciding to bat, the batsmen did not start well. The two openers did not score big. Ollie Pope scored 44 runs but his batting was slow. Joe Root who scored 99 not out off 191 balls, will have to continue to bat responsibly so that he can build up a competitive run.
In the second Test, England bowlers were not able to overcome the Indian batsmen that much, almost every player of theirs got runs. In the first innings of the current Test, the Indian bowlers were also bowling well and conceded very few runs. If England can bat all day on the second day of play this match might be competitive.
