Doing some check on your gambling management is not a bad idea if done regularly.
For me it is mandatory to do this type of management with the money that I am willing to lose, in fact before playing I mentally tell myself that I have to have fun or lose 5-7 USD, that is what I can spend, and from there I don't know, if I multiply them I withdraw them, if I lose them I don't play anymore, that is why it is so important to control our money.
I agree with you completely, this is exactly same thing I usually do myself and it's been helping me stay self aware for as long as I've been gambling, I could earn a $100 and put aside $5 for gambling, while the rest go into important life issues I need money to solve.
And before I move into gambling, I usually will conclude in my mind that I am only gambling to have fun, so in the end, it I end up not winning anything, it's completely and absolutely fine, sometimes, I even consider the money I want to gamble with lost even before I begin, this helps me to not regret it if at the end of the game, i end up losing the money.
All of this practises helps me to gamble cautiously and not allow myself to get carried away into making stupid mistakes.
