As of the news today, Crystal Palace has been demoted from the Europa League to the Conference. We still remember how the qualified by beating Manchester City in the FA cup final to get the Europa League ticket. But the twist here is that, they cannot since Lyon too will be playing in the same Europa League. John Textor owns shares in both Palace and Lyon, (I think he owns majority shares) the thus bridges UEFA multi club ownership rules Which simply states that Clubs with the same ownership cannot play in the same competition. Crystal Palace might go to court for this, lol.
This is very interesting. They're relegating an acquired right to a lower league. However, we can't say anything about this because the rules are clear. When different teams from the same owner meet, the scores are always questionable. I know they do something similar in Spain for their B teams. Crystal will take legal action, but I don't think anything will change.
I was also shocked because I read John Textor already announces about selling of his share in Crystal Palace which are 43% and have worth of £190 Million to New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, but new owner is looking for approval from Premier League about this.
If this deal is going to be completed then what could be outcome of this decision, or now it's all done because Premier League is taking time and this is hurting to Crystal Palace which is now set for having spot into Conference League instead of Europa League while Nottingham Forest is all set for their entry into Europa League which is going to be bonus for them. Crystal Palace can take legal action but most chances things are not going to have changes because time is already running out for doing anything regarding this.
