This is why the government of some countries are working hard to make sure that gambling is banned in their nation because it causes a whole lot of alarming issues. Imagine waking up to such a disturbing news, I'm sure the people in the Philippines were perturbed by this. Gambling shouldn't be something that is supposed to resort to violence. I think they were under the influence of hard drugs
If we are realistic though, banning cockfighting will probably not resolve the problem in a country like Philippines. It would be very difficult to enforce and dismantle all the cockfighting pits in the country and even if the government tried to do so, there will be underground pits being kept by criminals organizations, so people cal continue to bet their money in those animal fights.
Look at the United States for example, a country in which both cockfights and dogfights are banned and yet, they continue to have underground dog fights organized by mafias.
What happens in countries like Philippines is not a gambling problems, but rather a problem of criminality and probably a problem of drug abuse, assuming those involved in this horrible case indeed had consumed some hard drugs which made them to lose control over themselves...
