Real Madrid is trying their best to consolidate the team with new comers like Dean Huijsen coming from Bournemouth and Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool. Alvaro Carreras is the last comer to the team. So far Real Madrid is pointing to the defence line to fix the issues they are having there, especially with injuries during the season.
There is also talks about a potential switch of Ibrahima Konaté + additional money by Liverpool in order to get Rodrygo in exchange. Both parties didn't agree about the amount of additional money, otherwise this possibility might happen because Liverpool don't want to see Konaté walk free to Real Madrid next year for free.
So yeah, Xabi Alonso is working hard to make the team great again Wink
Yes, it's understandable that Real Madrid is currently focusing more on recruiting defenders. Indeed, Real Madrid currently has a weakness in defense, with several defenders frequently injured. This is due to their age. Most of Real Madrid's defenders are quite old. For example, Rudiger is now 32 years old, and Alaba is also 33. Therefore, Real Madrid's defense certainly needs to be refreshed. Otherwise, Real Madrid will certainly struggle to compete with other teams, especially their rivals, Barcelona. Therefore, it makes sense for Real Madrid to bring in three respected defenders. That way, their defense will likely not be so weak.

Regarding the Konate-Rodrygo swap, I don't think Real Madrid should ask Liverpool for money. That way, this player exchange can certainly be realized well. Because right now, it's pointless to keep Rodrygo at Real Madrid if he's not a regular starter. As we know, Rodrygo is adamant about being a regular starter, but given the current situation, it seems Rodrygo will struggle to break into a starting position at Real Madrid. So, given this situation, I think Real Madrid would be better off selling him or swapping him for another player, such as Konate. Konate could have performed well when he joined Real Madrid. Unfortunately, this swap deal is unlikely to happen again. So, yes, Real Madrid will likely keep Rodrygo.
