Jordan Henderson signs for Brentford, the club who read football just like Liverpool

Jordan Henderson has said he still has the “fire” to play in English football after ending his two-year absence from the Premier League by signing for Brentford.

Henderson has spent the last two seasons outside of England, having initially joined Saudi Arabia side Al-Ettifaq from Liverpool before moving to Dutch club Ajax in January 2024.

Henderson’s switch back to the Premier League comes a year ahead of the 2026 World Cup and the midfielder is aiming for a place in Thomas Tuchel’s squad at the tournament.

Now 35, Henderson was named in Tuchel’s first two international squads earlier this year and has featured in three of England’s last four matches.

His return to the Premier League, regarded as the most competitive division in the world, should help his case as he pushes for continued involvement on the international stage.

“I still had, after a couple of years away, that fire to come back and play in the Premier League again,” said Henderson. “Obviously we know it’s the best league in the world, with the best players.

“It’s a big challenge but one that I was keen on doing. When I was given the opportunity by Brentford, and after speaking with the club, it became an easy decision for us in the end.”
