That’s normal, all of us, at some point in life, tend to overdo it with gambling. The important thing is to try to keep everything under control so we can keep playing in the long run… without going broke and having to give up the games we love so much. I try to play a little now and then, not every day anymore, because the risk of things getting out of hand is too high, but I still place my bets and play a bit. It’s fun. Lately, I’ve been losing money, but eventually, luck will be on my side again.

That's what I try to avoid while gambling, to go broke is so annoying that it can make you do unthinkable things because you're broke. The fear of being broke is why at times, I'll stop gambling even though I'm on a winning streak because I don't want it to get over my head. Gambling under stress isn't comfortable for me and being broke makes me very uncomfortable that I might do things that I won't had done if I wasn't stressed. If the steps you're taking lately doesn't look right to you then you're making a mistake and the thing to do that moment is to take a step back and get back yourself which is what the OP did and that's a good decision
