One thing you must know is that once you retire as a Super Eagles player, the Nigerian government is not responsible for your well-being again because they paid you for your service as a Super Eagles player, so I won't blame the Nigerian government for neglecting Kadiri Ikhana on his sickbed. Our retired Super Eagles players and present players should leave wayward life alone, and they should prioritize investing their money wisely so that when they experience any health challenge, they can be able to solve their problem by themselves rather than relying on the Nigerian government or individuals to help them solve their problem.
Because of the very reason you stated, that's the very reason why most footballers are going after clubs that pays a huge pay on them so that to advert situation like this, being in a bad state in old age that they will look up to their country government to sort their medical bills for them.
I think in 1980, player's are not pay huge weekly as we have them currently. So many of the players(Africans) as of then, may be finding it difficult to sign in a good club after represent their country team in Olympic or world cup. We may not know what was Kadiri case, what happened to him thereafter the 1980 Africa Cup of Nation Cup, whether he was signed to a new club for how many years contract, what then happened to him? We can't correctly state that because some of us were not born by then
