Are you aware of the e-shopping site called Shoppe? This platform was first launched in Singapore in 2015 then reached to Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines. Basically covering the south east asia. It got me thinking how Uber accepted bitcoin and I wondered if is it possible that e-shopping site accepts bitcoin?
Maybe not. Shopee is known for very cheap items and I doubt there will be people wanting to pay in bitcoin. And is bitcoin that big in south east asia? But I thought that if bitcoin gets accepted in shopee, it will be a huge sign of adoption.
Shopee could implement this, as it's not impossible, although most people probably wouldn't use Bitcoin to pay for affordable items on Shopee. When we still have money to use for payments, it wouldn't be logical to give up Bitcoin just for a specific, affordable item on a platform. For an investor who already has a strong belief in Bitcoin, it would be unwise to throw away Bitcoin to get a cheap item on a marketplace like Shopee, especially since the platform already offers many other services accessible to everyone in Southeast Asia.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin's popularity in Southeast Asia has actually increased significantly, as I can see from the number of Bitcoin transactions and investors in Indonesia. This is also likely the case in other countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, and the Philippines, so I assume most Southeast Asians are already quite familiar with Bitcoin.
