I was at the atm gallery today to Widraw some cash so it was just only two atm machines that was paying so I have to join the chew, as the line proceeds their was a guy I noticed trying to help an elderly woman so the way they were both relating I assumed they both came together so after some time we noticed they have not widraw any money despite the long time wasted, people started asking why the delay and the guy replied it was network immediately the guy work away leaving the elderly woman behind then another person try that same machine and it pays, suddenly the elderly woman got an alert (debit alert) of about #400000 she screen! haven't said that another alert came again 250000 that was when the attention of the security personnel was called upon and they discovered that the atm card the woman was holding was not her card, her own real card was swap (exchange with the wrong card).
Let’s be very careful while at the atm stand, not everybody seen at the atm machines want to widraw money some came for there fraudulent activities, don't call anybody to assist you except the security personnel working in the banks.
Secondly, for our old parents we should not let them go to the bank alone, assuming that woman came with either her son or daughter that ugly incident wouldn't have occurred.
This occurrence is very relatable as it has happened severally over the years. This is a very educative thread as most people have fallen victim of this scam. There was this incident I experienced similar to this where a young man took pictures of an elderly woman's arm card after showing support like he was actually going to help and after a certain period she got debit alerts on her phone, surprisingly the guy already fled the scene. This happened when she was trying to activate her ATM card at the ATM machine and she didn't have the knowledge of it. Everybody at the scene felt really bad for the old woman and her account was immediately blocked from external access which was the best possible solution at the moment.
There was also this incident where a random call was received and requesting for codes from a lady I know, without her knowledge she sent the code with the mindset that the so called "customer care" were going to rectify her account and after some time she got debit alerts on her phone and just went speechless and had to call her son to help her block her account.
I think with his information, we should be careful with who we call our friends and who tends to show support.
