So how do you do that without creating a link to your real identity? That’s the part I find confusing. It’s not about Bitcoin itself, it’s about the process of converting the fiat to Bitcoin in a way that doesn’t leave a trace.

I would recommend using tBisq or Bisq2 p2p platforms to buy BTC with fiat. You can use either Revolut or Wise accounts to send fiat to trader of your choice. When using these accounts, the trader will only see relevant payment tags, not your personal identity.

Another option would be using Bitcoin ATMs. Some of them don’t require KYC for small amounts. While most have cameras, you may try to maintain privacy by wearing sunglasses, dad hat or even the fake mustache for camouflaging your face. The drawback of this method is large fee.

Yeah, the fees are the killer, depending on the place in question.

And to wear something to hide your identity form the cameras each time...nah Grin
