Do you think they do it for religion? i don't think so, religion is just an excuse to do what they like and that's it.
We know very well how the opium of the poor works, don't be fooled by these rumors, they do it because they evidently have no economic returns.
There are countries especially Islamic ones that strictly prohibit gambling, so it makes sense why they ban it. But in countries where it?s not banned by religion, the main reason for banning it is usually to protect the poor, who are more likely to get addicted.

Yes, the government might earn income from gambling taxes, but in the long run, it could lead to a higher poverty rate, so it?s not really a win-win situation.

At first, they allow it to operate, but once they see it?s doing more harm than good, they just decide to ban it altogether. Personally, i don?t think that?s a good move. When a government bans it after the damage is done, it just shows weak monitoring and failure to control the impact, especially on poverty. But then again, every government is different, and not all are capable or well-managed.

Yes, i know it's forbidden there, just as eating pork and drinking alcohol are forbidden, just as it's mandatory for women to wear clothing that covers their bodies. i don't want to sound like a hardcore feminist, which i am not, but all these obligations are for the "convenience" of the boss who gives them. Not for the one who receives them.
