I don't understand why people are congratulating @OP for being discipline and responsible with his gambling activity? 
Didn't you guys read @OP didn't set a limit how much he can gamble at that time with his friend? if he was discipline/responsible, he won't spent more than what he can afford to lose and he won't need to take a break for a month.
From this story, I would say @OP lacks of discipline, but the good thing he's not fallen to addiction.
You are making a good point here but I think taking a break so as not to get into addiction is a form of discipline so we cannot say @OP is completely undisciplined,if he is, he will not even know when he needs a break and know that he has gotten to the point where he should take a break and he did that without much hesitation is deserving of a congratulations because it is not an easy thing for most gamblers to do, they do struggle with it so bad they most ti.e do not succeed at taking a break or staying away from addiction.
