Frimpong can be fireworks. But his biggest problem is that sometimes he is not fireworks.
As a coach, what kind of player do I prefer the most? One who is not quite fireworks, but does the job, or one who is fireworks every now and then?
If Frimpong plays his best every week, it would be insane. He is a winger who is better than anyone. It would be fun to see him play his best all the time.
As a coach and a player, I want someone I can count on, always, always. Don't need the fireworks except as a sub or a one-off against a superior team, in a tournament, or in a must-win game haha.
But it wasn't so much the fireworks in Frimpong I liked, but his gelling personality off-pitch. His interviews anyway, are what I have seen, rather than his field work. Reminds me of guys like Robbo or VVD. They just emanate so much presence and this obscure feeling of "team".
Can't wait to see him play, alongside buddy Wirtz.
I know this is Slot ball but the team buildup now -- minus TAA's marauding prong which Klopp adjusted anyway in the last two seasons -- looks suspiciously built for heavy metal gegenpressing (I do miss that!).
I fully agree that reliability is a big one. Like Kroos has been for Real Madrid or De Bruyne once was for City. I think Frimpong was quite reliable, but then I didn't actually watch all his games like I did for some other players/teams.
I think he is similar to Jeremy Doku, but same for me that I didn't watch every single game, but every time I saw Doku play for like 30 minutes because he was coming from the bench, I was wondering why Pep didn't give him more chances to be a starter. Maybe he wasn't as reliable as I thought he is, but you can't just go with goals scored. Doku, for instance, gave the defending team such a hard time that all his teammates in the front had so much more space for themselves. That's another important effect of players like Doku or Frimpong.
