Hahahaha lmao. Marcus Smart is a good defender but he is a liability on offense which he frequently taking too much error.
But seriously this might work too considering that Lakers has a lot of good attacker. Smart should adjust to defensive position only just like what Caruso doing on OKC.
He will be tossed by Lakers immediately if keeps messing with his poor offense.
With Luka and LeBron on the team, it will already take a long time for Smart to get the ball on offense. When you add Reaves and Ayton into the mix too, nobody's really expecting Smart to carry any major scoring load. If he just hits his career averages which is 10ppg, that would be more than enough.
As a guard, he doesn't even have to carry the ball, because Luka and LeBron handle that most of the time anyway. He just needs to do his job in defense.
During his stint with the Celtics, he had Tatum, Brown and White on his side that's why they don't need him in terms of offense, and he can just do what he usually does which is to defend, and defend.
Now with the Lakers, like you said, they have offensive-minded players like the ones you said, so he can flourish there IMO because he doesn't need to do some offensive stuff, but he can focus on defense only. I don't think that the Lakers get Smart because they want him to help the team offensively. They got him because they just lost their best defender in Finney-Smith, and now they need an exchange to that hence, they got Smart. He might be a liability on offense yes, but he's still one of the best (for me) when it comes to defense. The problem lies when he's also a liability on defense and decision-making as well then they might just waive him mid-season or end of the season.
