# If You Sent to the wrong address?
$ You learned about step and finality.
It's very rare to send to the wrong address because all of the addresses are unique. This means that you don't check the address and never looked at it before sending. It's a big mistake when you do that and somehow most of the people that sends to the wrong address are infected with malware, the copy paste malware that changes the address that you are copying from your own and changes it to the hackers address.
It is definitely not very rare. This happens very often these days with different kind of hacking attempts. Remember there are many ways that others try to steal Bitcoin. For example it can be a virus that hijacks your clipboard so after you copy your address and paste it it goes somewhere else. Second there are those that poison your history, they generate a similar looking address to yours. So those people that have learned to check the beginning and end of an address get tricked into thinking that it is theirs. I've also read old forum posts of people who didn't understand Bitcoin asking about recovery after sending to the wrong address simply by copying the wrong one. It does happen!
