People who run sig campaigns have always been appreciated by the community, which always tries to thank them for it. For a good portion of users, this forum is just a platform for making money, and what's wrong with wishing your boss a happy birthday, right?
I recently published my small success (10 years since registering on the forum) and only a few people commented on it - so I somewhat agree with your statement.
