Good morning to everyone here on the politics & society section of the forum.
I wondered how many of you have heard or read about both body positivity and fat acceptance movements on the internet and outside of it.
We are in a new age where we fight for our right to have a space in this society, if they want to justify being fat and they are comfortable with their body, and there’s no harm to society, then let these movements be.
There are numerous movements in our diverse society, one of which is the LGBTQ community. Therefore, having a Fat acceptance movement is not something new, and similar movements will likely emerge. They want empowerment, and they want acceptance from a judgmental society
On one hand, I get a free society with free individuals is fundamental to keeping society as happy as possible. I have had this discussion before with people from the United States and they have told me that in their country everyone has the "right/freedom to be Fat and Stupid". Some people may argue that if you are allowed to be fat and stupid then your society is going through good times in which survival is easy.
On the other hand, being fat and LGBTQ are very different things. Being fat is something which can be changed and unlike one's personal sexuality, it does not exist in detriment of our own health and well being. In that sense, being fat could be often compared to being a smoker, you choose to be fat but you cannot complain on the health issues which may come in the future.
