I actually thought of this, and I told someone maybe this is one of the reasons why the Nico Williams deal was not possible. We already know how good Barcelona was from the last season, and seriously, their performance is incredible, and any new player that is brought in now, the fans will be expecting much from that player, and maybe Nico Williams feels he won’t meet up with the expectations.
That is why he didn’t show much interest in getting the deal done. Although the person was arguing with me, I’m happy I see someone who has the same mindset as me about this issue. Maybe it’s right the way you think of it; Williams may feel like he won’t be able to meet up, while we already know Rashford is a good player and will surely deliver the expected result.
For the fans expectation, that was the exact thing that would've happened if Nico deal was to be successful, but without being told, if we should look at the performance of Barcelona in their last season, there's no way the fans and even the club management wouldn't be expecting the same performance again this season, they'll be having the mindset like if they were able to perform to that extend last season with players from academy and the main Barcelona team players, so they will have more of that if they add more players to their team, the task wouldve been much on Nico Williams, Rashford will also face the same thing, Barcelona will expect him to play very well, if he fails, it will be too bad if he doesn't, let's hope he to see him fly well in Barcelona.
