It seems that Guardiola has finally found a replacement for Ederson, but decided not to buy a ready-made goalkeeper, but a young one with prospects for years to come. The length of the contract is not yet clear, but I think it will be at least five years, given the player's prospects.
Aren't they targeting Diogo Costa from Porto? I think he a great replacement for Ederson especially since he Portugal star goalkeeper. Man City might be put off by Porto high asking price but considering it's Man City it should be easy for them to spend a little more, whatever the reason for the lack of a deal, I wouldn't mind if they decided to replace him with Trafford, who already knows the Premier League and is a worthy future goalkeeper.
