I just wonder what changed now, it used to be a loading(syncing) wallet for a while if we open the wallet after long gap and also the initial sync took me a lot more time but now we don't have that anymore?
Does this upgrade affect the privacy in any way?
Hi, thanks for your question. Here’s a description of what has changed:
Thanks for your detailed explanation of what's changed and others also might have this question if they were using Ginger wallet so hope this clears the question as well.
What I said as initial loading screen is, when we downloaded the wallet for the first time it took hours for the process to complete and if I understood that correctly that remains same even now or even that works in the background with the new UI/UX?
whereas Ginger wallet is a quite new software which does not have so much popularity in the community. Not because it is bad or anything but simply because they do not market it enough.
Marketing is important for any software.
They tried signature campaign for 8 weeks and then it's paused so I guess it didn't give the result they expected but most of the time long running campaigns will be more effective to reach out to the community than a short burst one.
Another reason could be the 0.3% fee, while the same service can be availed for completely free. Funds are important for the development but if there's an option to do the same thing for free then most of the users will go with one that costs nothing so the team may need to look for other ways to raise the fund needed for development and making it 0% fee service will work like magic.
The initial loading can take a bit longer the first time you open Ginger Wallet. This is because the client needs to download filters for privacy reasons. If you're curious, you can read more about the technical background here:
https://nopara73.medium.com/bitcoin-core-vs-wasabi-wallet-network-level-privacy-bdca1d501387That said, our new user experience (UX) has made things much smoother for new wallets. Previously, you had to wait for the loading process to complete before doing anything. Now, you're let in instantly and can start receiving or buying Bitcoin right away.
However, this faster access does not apply to recovered wallets. For privacy reasons, these need to fully synchronize before they can generate a receiving address or allow you to buy Bitcoin.
Also, please note that sending or selling Bitcoin always requires the wallet to be fully synced.
Just a quick reminder: in version 2.0.19, we already made the initial loading faster.
And for the record, we’re not done yet! We're actively working on further improvements to both the initial load time and the startup time for background services.
