Well it's simple, because it's the game of football where the inevitable happens especially when it's least expected. Over the course of some months, PSG has been the favourites in all the classic matches since this year and we all thought they will continue that exploit but things took a drastic turn in the CWC. Especially in the finals, it was a game that some people had already written off Chelsea, but it came as a shocker that Chelsea did not only win them but thrashed and outplayed them.
We watched a similar final a few years ago in the Europa League final. Bayer Leverkusen were playing against Atalanta, a magnificent team. Everyone expected a decisive victory for Bayer Leverkusen, who hadn't lost a single match before the Atalanta match, but Atalanta destroyed Bayern Leverkusen in the final. We also saw a similar match in the Club World Cup. Chelsea weren't the favorites, but they won their match decisively. Therefore, the saying about being the favorites in the final is very true. I don't know which team will reach the Europa League final next year, but I'm confident an English team will win the trophy.
Yes Paris Saint-germain had a very unforgettable champions league run destroying Inter Milan 5-0 in the final to grasp the cup for the first time in their clubs history. The big gap in the score left a lot of fans speechless and celebrated all over Europe. But Chelsea brought them back to reality by absolutely destroying them in the 2025 club World Cup final beating them 3-0 with cole Palmer scoring two beautiful goals becoming the man of the match and João Pedro scoring the other goal. So consequently the champions of Europe ended up second best in this unique global tournament.
These results show that finals are unpredictable. What PSG achieved in Europe, Chelsea achieved in world stage.
So yes PSG deserve respect on their name after their Champions League campaign, but Chelsea's triumph in the CWC shows that PSG can be beaten. So let's see how well both these teams do next season.
