Exactly. It's basically the same with football, teams like BVB build up great players but when the bigger leagues or teams come calling it's hard to stop the top players from leaving. NBA is the dream of every basketball player so if they get the chance to go, they will. Not only because of the money but for the prestige. I mean we all know that atmosphere and fundamental basketball is better in Europe. But everybody wants that check on their resume, playing in the big league.
There is always the next generation you can build your team on, that's for sure. Now that Europe is on the radar of every NBA scout, unlike 20 years or so ago, it's not necessary to go the NCAA route anymore to possibly being picked high in the draft. So you can stay in Europe for a while and then do the jump.
Of course, being in the NBA is a dream for any kid who starts playing basketball. As you said, though, it isn't a necessity or something that you have to rush for. However, as you also know, the fame, the money, the way of life, all of this shining and the glam that the NBA offers
push youngsters to see things differently. For me, Europe can be sometimes even better than the NBA, but my perspective it's different than the usual one. Better to focus on the sport, and glam will come.
