What a shame, hope it is found and returned ASAP.
Maybe the person stole that is so damn broke and think about that there's hidden code attach inside on which he or they could get lots Bitcoins in that statue.
To bad for them they stole a monumental structure which symbolize the greatness of Satoshi. This one just shows that there are crazy people would do all thinking to get something from it. Hopefully there's harsh or heavy penalties will be impose to those thieves.
But for now hopefully that statue will return on its original place or position soon.
But from Grittoshi's update post, I found out that August 1st was Swiss National Day, where he was staying, and some young people in a nearby cafe were having fun with this moment while returning home after getting drunk. Since there are cameras everywhere, they left it somewhere. Maybe the young people didn't realise the importance of this Satoshi Nakamoto while drunk.
Having visited Lugano multiple times, I have a very hard time figuring out a bunch of drunk guys entering the closed park where the statue was exposed, vandalising it to the point of eradicating it from the pedestal and disposing of it somewhere (on the lake maybe?).
Very difficult, for a very lazy Swiss village like Lugano.
