Well to start with fixing phones especially is not something I fancy. That aside there are numerous cases of people's data being leaked when the drop their devices at the repairers to get it fixed and that actually prompted some companies like Samsung to add a repair mode feature to their flagships virtually making the device non functional without the owner's consent.
This comment reminds of the case of Hunter Biden the son of the former president of the US Joe. He sent his laptop to a Delaware repair shop. His laptop was later hacked and the contents were leaked to the public. This singular leak affected the family reputation badly that it nearly cost his father his office. People with low technical knowledge would always fall victim to these criminal repairers.
